CAMBODIA, PHNOM PENH, May 12, 2010- Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday appealed to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces standing at the Cambodian-Thai border to protect forest and stop destroying it; and, moreover, they must stop cultivating land around their standing locations.

"All troops stationing here need to safeguard our forest in their places," Prime Minister Hun Sen said at an inaugural ceremony of the Preah Vihea provincial new building.

In the past few weeks, Cambodian authorities arrested more than 100 illegal timber traders and ten of them were charged with illegally cutting the trees and brought to justice.

PM Hun Sen's calls occurred after the illegal timber traders had conspired with each other to cut the trees.

PM Hun Sen told his Cambodian Military Commanders to give him correct and specific reports on the current military situation, and it would be easy for him and the analysts to evaluate the political and military situations.

"Recently, the military officers have given different reports on the military situation concerning the military clashes between Thai and Cambodian soldiers," he said.

PM Hun Sen also called on a Minister of Economics to report the market investment to him in order to avoid having problems with business people.

"The Preah Vihea provincial new building is a sign of a new development, but Prime Minister Hun Sen also told all provincial officials to effectively fulfill their duties so as to solve the people's existing problems," he added.
